Prevent / Stop Early Clock In

As a way to control labor, the system should have a way to prevent employees from clocking in early. I worked with a system in the past, where I could control how early the clocks allowed an employee to punch in. (An error message would appear saying they are not scheduled to work yet, and would post the time the employee is scheduled to work.) Currently we have employees who clock in up to an 45 min before their scheduled start time - simply because they arrived to the location early. Granted, the GM should be controlling this, but in a busy shop this is not always possible. Prevention at the clock is key.

Was this ever fixed? Last I posted in January after it launched, it still didnt work.

I am trying to implement this for my company, but it seems that this is not working as intended. The system does not allow them to select "Clock In" (which is great) and start their shift early - BUT - it DOES allows them to switch the clock in option to Break or Clock Out - and then they can continue with doing their punches. So this leads to us still having this labor issue because the employee will simply say "Well here is proof that I was here and working" - and we have no choice but to pay it. Where as if ALL functions are shut down - employees will take note that this is not an error - it is the company stating that you should not be here this early and therefore you cannot do ANY functions on the clock. Can this be updated so that ALL features are disabled when an employee attempts to clock in (or do any punch) early than there grace period start time. Tx!

Hi Alex! Just wanted to see if the development team can work on this tweak. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the feedback! You can set up a shift question to prevent early clockins. Just follow the prompts here to set it up: https://my.tanda.co/settings#time_clock

Alex: Hi Alex! I was asking for a actual prevention at the clock to stop people from being allowed to clock in early. I believe thats what everyone was asking for as well. I am aware we can ask the question (we already have this feature set up) - but at the end of the day we are still stuck paying employees for times they clocked in early unauthorized. Asking them the question does not solve the problem of minimizing labor hours or having to pay premium payments in NYC due to "change in schedule". We need Tanda to have the ability to stop a punch at the clock level if it sees an employee attempting to clock in prior to their scheduled start time. Tx!

Elizabeth Joseph-Lau: you're able to choose between asking a question, and blocking a clockin, based on a set lenience window. See attached screenshot for an example.

Alex: Amazing! Thanks!

This function is available in Settings - Timesheets where you can set your Clock-in & Clock-Out Times

Denese Francis: Hi Dense, I've searched all menus under the cog/settings icon and can't find this feature. I can see that you can automate clock ins/outs to round up or down to their roster, but I can see an option when you can actually prevent an employee from clocking in early. Am I missing something? Are you able to provide more info please? Thanks

Amanda Macaulay: you cant actually stop them clocking in but when you set the clock-in/clock out range TANDA will automatically take it to the rostered start time. eg with staff arriving 45 minutes early, if they are rostered to start at 10 but turn up at 9.15, if you've set the time rounding off time to 1 hour it will round off to anything within that hour to the rostered starting time. If they clock on more than 1 hour early you will have to manually adjust it.

Denese Francis: Hi Denese, unfortunately this is what we are asking for. We need Tanda to be able to turn on or off a hard stop on employees clocking in early. I have seen and used this feature in other systems.

I would recommend 15 min prior clock in time - we require staff to have arrived, made their coffee etc and be sitting at their desk ready to start when their rostered time ticks over
EDIT - or the ability to set your own limitation on when clock in becomes available.

Tiffany Houldsworth: Agreed! Every company should be able to set their own limit as what is acceptable for their business.

Tiffany Houldsworth: Agree - would be great if we can nominate and max early clock in time and if an employee tries to clock in earlier than this, the system won't allow it

This would be wonderful as well. With GPS clock in, I would love the system to PREVENT someone clocking in if they're more then perhaps 100m away from the team address.
I currently have an employee who works offsite and uses GPS clock in/out. However, despite many discussions, she's still semi regularly clocking in or out from HOME as opposed to her actually shift location.

Amanda Macaulay: Agreed. Only a week after using the GPS clock in I found 4 instances where the staff clocked in and they were actually at their home addresses!
