We have an obligation to request availability/willingness to work on a public holiday: https://businesschamberqld.com.au/article/why-employers-must-request-not-require-employees-to-work-on-public-holidays/
The current proposed fix mentioned in another closed suggestion is to use documents or acknowledged communications to manage this, or switch on shift acceptance.
Based on the risk of non-compliance, we want to make it as easy as possible for managers to manage this, particularly when they have multiple locations.
We don't want shifts to require acknowledgement all the time as it's not operationally required and causes its own risks. We only need to do this for public holiday weeks.
We considered using the current roster-by-roster option (screenshot attached), but it wouldn't send an acknowledgement request to a part-time employee who was rostered for their usual roster pattern.
We'd also suggest having the option to add 'draft' as wording/a note somewhere on the roster so it's clear this is only a request. This is something that has come up time and again in the advice since the case.
Please help us with this to make sure we're being compliant!
