Two new automated overtime conditions are now available in the General Retail Industry Award (GRIA) Managed Template.
Specifically, we now have award rules to automate the 11 hour day condition.
Under the GRIA
(clauses 15.4-15.5)
, employees can work 11 ordinary hours one day per week. On all other days, the maximum number of ordinary hours is nine. Hours beyond this are paid at overtime rates. The 11 hour day will be the first day in a week that is more than 9 hours.
Previously, overtime triggered after nine ordinary hours every day with the option to apply the 11 hour day via a shift tag. This update automates that process, so a shift tag is no longer necessary.
See below, where the Tuesday shift is nominated as the 11 hour day, being the first shift to exceed 9 hours. The following shift is then paid at overtime rates from the 9th hour.

We’ve also added another rule about non-continuous work. Under the GRIA (clause 15.3), ordinary hours must be worked continuously. We’ve added overtime award rules to the template to automate this condition for full-time and part-time employees.
