Junior Rate Variations in Managed Templates

On 26 August 2026, the Fair Work Commission handed down a decision in the Junior rates application (AM2024/24) case, resulting in variations to three modern awards:

General Retail Industry Award 2020 (GRIA)
Fast Food Industry Award 2020 (FFIA)
Pharmacy Industry Award 2020 (PIA)

Between 1 December 2026 and 1 July 2029, junior rates for employees under these awards aged 18 to 20 and with more than 6 months' tenure

will be phased out

. Employees with 6 months or less tenure will continue on junior rates until their tenure exceeds six months.

All three of these modern awards are available as Managed Award Templates in Tanda and this change

will be automated for each Template

The first phase of variations are effective from the start of the first full pay period commencing on or after 1 December 2026

, and Managed Templates will be updated before this date. Additional communications will be sent once the updates are live.

This change is automated using the

Employment start date

field in the employee profile. We recommend reviewing this data ahead of December via the Export Employee Data (CSV) or Employee Report, which includes date of birth, age, and tenure.
