We’ve added automated overtime award rules to the Hair and Beauty Award Template.
Specifically, these new award rules automate the 10.5 hour day condition, which applies to full-time and part-time employees.
Under the Hair and Beauty Industry Award
(clauses 14.7-14.9)
, employees can work 10.5 ordinary hours one day per week. On all other days, the maximum ordinary hours is nine. Hours beyond this are paid at overtime rates. The 10.5 hour day will be the first day in a week that exceeds 9 hours.Previously, overtime triggered after nine ordinary hours every day with the option to apply the 10.5 hour day via a shift tag. This update automates that process, so a shift tag is no longer necessary.
See below, where the Wednesday shift is nominated as the 10.5 hour day, being the first shift to exceed 9 hours. The following shift is then paid at overtime rates after 9 hours.

This condition resets weekly in line with your timesheet period. If your timesheet period commences on Monday, this overtime condition will reset each Monday.
We have also added further automations to cover overtime payments for the ‘span of ordinary hours’ on public holidays, as set out in
clauses 22.2(b) and 22.3(b)
. You can
opt-in to these updates until Monday, December 16th, 2024
. To do so, navigate to Time & Attendance > Compliance and click the + icon next to ‘Award Template’.
Then, locate the Hair & Beauty Industry Award and click ‘Update Award.’
From
Tuesday, December 17th 2024, these updates will automatically apply
to anyone who hasn’t opted in. For a more detailed summary of these updates, please see our help guide. You can also access the full Hair and Beauty Award Summary Guide.
