Australian Child Employment Rules in Rosters
Tanda can now automatically apply each state's
child employment laws
as roster validations when rostering school-aged staff.A rules reference page is available under
Settings
> Roster Settings
> View Child Employment Rules
. It shows a breakdown of the state rules that apply to each of your locations, with links to the relevant legislation.
Note: this feature is still rolling out gradually to all accounts, so you may not see these changes yet. Please reach out to support if you would like this enabled now.
Setting up an employee
A new
School Details
tab appears on the profile of any employee under 18. From here, managers can record:- School details, which determine whether school-day or non-school-day limits apply
- Student free days, so the system knows when non-school-day rules should apply instead
- Exemptions, for cases such as family business, entertainment, delivery work, or work under a permit.

Employees can also set their own school details during onboarding and at any time on their profile in the mobile app.
Roster warnings
If a shift would breach the rules for that employee, it is flagged as such under the Warnings tab:

You can configure child employment validations to warn only or block publishing entirely under
Settings
> Roster Validations
.
For the validation to show in the roster, the employee must first have school details set on their profile.
